To the Heralds of the East, as well those interested in learning the trade and our counterparts in foreign lands, greetings from Mathghamhain Ua Ruadháin.
You are invited to join me on Saturday, July 18, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Eastern time, for an online heralds chat and OSCAR commentary session.
We’ll open the session with a “what did you learn at KWHSS” roundtable to hear from folks who attended cool classes this weekend — or free to share anything cool you’ve learned recently — and at the end we’ll wrap up with an open-ended question-and-answer session on anything heraldic you might be wondering about.
In between those we’ll spend a bunch of time in OSCAR, commenting on the July Eastern Internal Letter. This is a great learning opportunity for beginner or intermediate book heralds who don’t yet feel confident about doing OSCAR commentary on their own — we’ll read through the submitted names and armory together, checking documentation, looking for conflicts, and seeing if we can spot any other issues.
If you haven’t ever commented in OSCAR before, this is a solid way to get started, and by the end of the session you’ll have enough experience to be able to apply for your own account. In addition to helping the kingdom’s heralds find problematic submissions, learning how this process works is also a great way to train yourself to resolve issues on your own forms before mailing them in.
I’m the heraldic education officer for the East Kingdom, but the outlines of the OSCAR commentary process are very similar in other kingdoms, and this session is open to everyone.
